Camping Le Sylvamar Reviews

Camping Le Sylvamar Holiday Park

If you are looking to travel a little further to find something slightly more different than Sylvamar will give you a great holiday. Just north of the town of Bayon (think lovely ham) on the Bay of Biscay there is a fantastic beach within walking distance that’s perfect for surfing. Whether you are a beginner or an expert surfer this camp really is for you. Starting with reception where they speak English and a host of other languages it’s friendly and efficient and they can help with all the admin type things you need to deal with when on holiday. Dog are made welcome at this camp which has great laundry facilities and a good little shop for all your holiday emergencies (you know, sunglasses, sun screen – all those things you left in the Boots bag on the kitchen table). The park does have disabled facilities and you’ll probably want to talk about them before you book.

There are 648 pitches at Sylvamar making this a lively park that’s open between 12th May and 15th September.

You have a great choice of two or three bedrooms chalets with separate private bathrooms, living and kitchen space. Each kitchen comes all mod cons (as my Mum would say – bless her) and everything you’ll need to look after your family. Each chalet has patio furniture and some even have decking space. Add to that the barbecues and you’ve got a recipe for perfect family evenings together.

Facilities & Activities at Sylvamar

The children are well catered for with acting clubs, make up, decoration, drawing and painting. All activities they can get involved in making it perfect for your little Monets and Matisses with outdoor singing and theatre for the more dramatic amongst us.

On site there is a modern restaurant serving regional specialties and a children’s menu located by the pool complex. There is a snack bar serving paninis (how French is that- Not!) chicken, frites and sandwiches and a creperie by the pool which perfect for lunchtime hunger pangs. There is a great bar, it’s very modern with a lovely terrace by the pool making it perfect for a mid afternoon G & T.

On site there is an impressive lagoon style water park with five pools. With water depths and slides and chutes suitable for all ages there’s even a lazy river for the more sedate amongst us – that’ll do for me guys! For some extra special pampering there is a spa with sauna, whirlpool and Jacuzzi facilities. If this is all too much activity then settle down with a sun lounger on the well laid out sun terrace. Evening entertainment takes place with children’s and family discos arranged all throughout the season. Sports wise you can choose between tennis, table tennis, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball and gymnasium but it’s more than likely that the waves on the local beaches will be the biggest pull. You can hire bikes with all the accessories you’ll want (helmets and kiddies seats not bags and shoes girls!) to make getting to the beach easier.

There is really good surfing at Labenne Ocean no more than 15 mins walk from the site and it’s a great place to learn if you’ve not tried it before. The local town of Labenne is a couple of miles away and has all the lovely food shops the kids will find so fascinating. Biaritz is less than 12 miles away and with its mix of French glamour and modern festival culture it’s really worth a visit.

Well worth the long drive. The nearby forest is huge with lots of wildlife, so try and grab a spot near there. The pool and onsite activities are fine. The sanitary facilities are cleaned several times a day. The beach is popular with sports lovers however it is around 1km away which was slightly disappointing. The restaurant provided high quality food although it is more expensive than I thought it would be.

No doubt you’ll have a great family holiday at Village Sylvamar – we did.
