Raguenes Plage Holiday Park

If you’re looking for a holiday park that’s perfect for your young family the look no further. Raguenes Plage is a family run campsite in Brittany that offers everything for a quiet relaxing holiday, particularly perfect for a young family. With a great pool complex and being only a short stroll (though lovely cornfields as well) away from a safe beach this site really does have it sorted! Being located in southern Brittany it’s perfect for a longer summer holiday, a shorter half term break or even that long weekend you’ve been thinking about.

The site has just 287 Pitches, not too large at all, and all are on grass and have barbecues provided.

As far as accommodation goes it couldn’t be better. You can sleep under canvass in a two or three bedroom tent with separate sleeping and living areas. Basic cooking facilities that are perfect for preparing breakfast or a simple meal are provided. You also have a barbecue so there’s lots of outdoorsy type action going on. All tents will have new internal canvasses for 2012.

Your choice of chalets couldn’t be easier at Raguenes Plage. Either two or three bedroom, all have an outdoor space perfect for using the provided barbecue on a warm summer evening. Separate living space and kitchen space (oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave – bet you’re beside yourself now aren’t you) means you get a perfect environment for a great family getaway.

There is a friendly well organised reception where English is spoken. They’ll organise stamps, phone cards or even internet access (WiFi if you really must know!) for you. Raguenes Plages welcomes your four legged friends but not in all types of chalet so you’ll need to check when booking. There are also disabled facilities, shops and a laundry on site.

Facilities & Activities at Raguenes Plage

On-site animation teams organise craft and games activities – just the right amount to improve rather than interrupt your family time so most of your holiday action will be centred around the lovely pool complex

There are four pools here, all heated (plus one covered) so you’ll be able to find the perfect pool for your youngsters whatever their ages. Slides, chutes, bridges and fountains all add up to create the perfect play space for the family. Sun loungers abound on the bright sun terrace and are perfect for keeping half an eye on junior and co.

On site sports are best described as gentle. Table tennis (7 tables), badminton, basketball, volleyball and 2 playgrounds provide the right amount of activity for young minds and bodies. For the less young mind there is a cosy, comfortable bar that’s a great place to unwind. Don’t expect discos and karaoke at Raguenes Plage, they’re just not on the menu. You might however, find a low key piece of local entertainment during July and August.

Being close to the beach means that many of the offsite activities are rather nautical. Windsurfing, canoeing, dinghy sailing and kayaking are all available within 5 miles of the campsite. If you’re in a non-nautical frame of mind you can find tennis, horse riding, and fishing also within an easy 5 miles.

In a rural location such as Raguenes Plage you should look to the local towns for a real flavour of France. Markets are found locally and will be a great place for you to shop for your self-catering and will be a real experience for the kids. For something really special, local festivals take place 5th – 8th May, 22nd – 23rd July and 12th – 14th August and they all celebrate Breton Celtic culture. One place worth mentioning is the local town of Pont Aven. Just do yourself a favour and visit it. It’s like looking at the top of a box of chocolates – too pretty for words!

Beaches and boat trips will also feature in your list of off-site activities along with trips to the Rospico Botanical Gardens and Park Animalieu (what’s that about then? Go on take a wild guess…)

After a busy day of action if you don’t feel like doing a Delia then there’s a small restaurant with a lovely outside conservatory area. The restaurant serves local specialities in a traditionally decorated area and is open between 15 June and 30 September. There is also a take away serving (….well go on have a guess, what do you think?) pizzas, chips and pasta. Great for kiddy-style midday hunger pangs.

On-site there are two shops. First up is a mini-market that’s well stocked enough to meet all your self-catering emergencies, swiftly followed by the main shop where you can buy your wider holiday essentials.

Five Reasons to Book a Family Holiday to Raguenes Plage

  • Easy travelling from channel ports
  • Great for young families
  • Lovely beaches
  • Kiddy safe pools
  • Pont Aven

Family Travel Guide to Brittany – France

Popular with Brits for many a year now Brittany really does have a lot to offer. Easy access from the channel ports is a big plus for family holidays as are the lovely sandy beaches and the more rugged areas of coastline that are so similar to our own Cornwall. Camping La Raguenes Plage is a sizeable holiday park with very good facilities and includes all the activities you’d expect to find on most sites. The site is kept very clean by the brilliant staff and the onsite shop stocks a wide range of food including fresh meat and tasty pastries. As I’ve already touched upon the staff are very helpful with most speaking English relatively well, if you know a little French try to make the effort, it will impress them no ends.

The pitches are large, well shaded and sheltered from the elements. The pool complex is great and the kids loved it but it can get a little overcrowded, don’t expect to be swimming lengths. If you’re brave enough you can do lengths in the sea, the beach it just a stones throw away which is long, sandy and sheltered although some days the weather let us down.

You will have to make your own evening entertainment either head off site or have your own little pitch party – the onsite bar is nice but not much going on there. The atmosphere onsite is very friendly, no doubt the kids will be begging to come back.

Make sure you visit Pont Aven…wow! (take your camera)
