Les Ecureuils Reviews

Les Ecureuils Holiday Park

On the French coast, right on the Bay of Biscay this park is great if you are looking for either beach or cycling holidays (or both I guess). Les Ecureuils is dog friendly and small which means it’s a quieter pace of life so you won’t end up feeling like part of a machine. Even though this is a small park they do speak English at reception and will be happy to arrange Internet access and WiFi in the bar area for a small charge. They will also point you in the direction of the laundry and drier facilities. The park also has disabled facilities and you’ll probably want to chat about those before you make you’re booking.

There are only 212 pitches here between 28th April and 8th September and if you are travelling with friends or family you can reserve neighbouring pitches which makes for a great family holiday.

For the back to nature feeling there are tents at Les Ecureils. All tents come with two or three bedrooms and have everything you need to feed your family with. Grill, gas rings and a charcoal barbecue will make for great family meals. Your tent has patio furniture and this summer all tents will have new inside and outside canvass which means that the living space can be opened completely.

If you are looking for slightly more creature comforts there are four types of chalet to choose from. They range in size from 25m2 to 34m2 living space with a choice of two or three bedrooms. All have separate bathrooms and living space with well-arranged kitchens that have everything you need from fridge freezer to microwave, oven and grill to look after the family. With patio furniture and outside space, some with decking and all with barbecues you’re well set for a fantastic summer holiday.

Facilities & Activities at Les Ecureuils

Looking after the kids at Les Ecureuils is very well thought out. first off there is toddler class rumble trucks and all terrain buggies to help little feet get around the site. There is an on site animation team who organise a whole raft of activities including bingo, and quizzes. There is also a Fun Station shere the kids can get involved in supervised activities such as Art Attack, Spooks and World of Wizardry to keep your kids occupied morning, noon and night. There is also a TV room and a games room with pinball and arcade games and there are family discos run regularly between 1 June and 31 August

Food! Can be the bane of any holiday when you have a small family! There is an onsite restaurant that serves modern regional specialities and joy of joy has a children’s menu. The take-away serves pizza, burgers, chips (sorry frites) mussels (now –that’s a challenge isn’t it, getting the kids to try them, they really are lovely though) sandwiches and salads. On site there is a minimarket and a small bakery but your best bet, food wise is to shop locally in St Hilaire de Riez.

For such a small campsite the five pools at Les Ecureuils are pretty amazing. Pools with slides, chutes, a crazy river and Jacuzzi and a variety of depths give you something for all ages of water babes. The spa also has a whirlpool and Jacuzzi and the sun terrace has plenty of sun loungers for grown up r & r. There is good choice of on site sports including the all the usual suspects; tennis, table tennis, football, squash, gymnasium, quad biking (come on Mum – lets have a go together) and boules. You can also relax in the small bar by the pool which is great for late afternoon refreshment.

Off site , within a few miles of the site is a great range of activities including horse riding, fishing and boat trips. There are plenty of shops bars and restaurants in the local town of St Hilaire de Reiz and you really shouldn’t forget the stunning beaches which are no more than 200 yards away. If you are looking for more fun then head towards the Atlantic Toboggan water park or the Feeling Forrest which is great for thrill seekers, with its climbs, rides and slides in the tree tops.

I visited Les Ecureuils with my daughter, I booked everything through Eurocamp, a 8 day slot was only available I would have liked to have gone for more – so book in advance!

This site is great for young families, if you have kids under 13 they will love it here.

Good Points – stunning beach, great kids clubs run by Holiday Break, large pool complex, lots to do, charming local area.

Bad – Can be noisy at night sometimes.

I would go back again without a moments hesitation – just longer next time.
