La Rive Reviews

Camping De La Rive Holiday Park

If you’re looking for a water holiday then La Rive is a great place to try. The La Rive holiday parc is set in a forest on the shore of a lake in South West France’s Gascony-Gironde region. Because you are on the shore of the lake there is lots of activity on the water as well as in it. The site has a lovely sandy beach on the edge of the freshwater lake so no sea salt – the kids will love it. As you would expect there is a friendly, efficient reception where they speak English and can do all sorts of adminy type of things for you. There is also a family friendly laundry with dryer facilities which means fewer suitcases crammed with t-shirts and shorts (and that’s just for Dad). The park does have good disabled facilities and you’ll probably want to ask about those when you make your booking,

There are 809 pitches at La Rive so you should expect a large park with a lively atmosphere. La Rive has a great range of chalets to suit all families. They are all two or three bedrooms varieties; they all have separate living and kitchen space and neat little bathrooms. Your kitchens come with all mod cons so you can really work up to doing a Delia here. All chalets have outside space with patio furniture, some have decking and some have a covered terrace. The outside space is perfect for use with the barbecue so you’ll have some great summer meals to remember.

Facilities & Activities at La Rive

Keeping the kids amused can be a full-time occupation on holiday and there’s plenty at La Rive to help out. The on-site animation teams put on shows in evenings and organise karaoke nights (oh no, not I Will Survive AGAIN). There is also a free Children’s Fun Station where such gems as Breakfast Club, Art Attack and Fun Olympics are regularly on the menu.

You can feed the tribe on site as well. If you want a break from your self-catering (great though the facilities are) the take away serves great roast chicken, pizzas, frites and even has a plat du jour. The main restaurant serves a regional menu and specialises in tapas style dishes (yum yum but isn’t that a bit more Spanish than French). You can always shop for foodstuffs in the onsite supermarket and there is a main shop and news agent if you can’t resist the retail challenge.

You’ll probably be keen on water activities if you’ve come to La Rive. The swimming pool complex has five pools and a spa with sauna whirlpool and Jacuzzi. The five pools great offer a great choice, covered or outdoors, lagoon styles with waterslides and chutes and a variety of depths suitable for all ages. If you want a little more action then there is windsurfing, canoeing, pedalos, kayaking and tennis, table tennis, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball, skateboard and roller bald hire, gymnasium, archery and boules (phew – I told you it was lively). You can also fish for perch and pike and permits are available locally. In the evening there is family and adult discos between 29 June 29 August and with the French style bar there really is something to do all day and every day at La Rive.

Outside of the camp take a visit to Biscarosse, the nearest village and see French life as it is. There are cafes where you can sit on the street and fantastic food shops that it’s so worth taking the kids round. You can also take them to the various attractions in the area that include La Coccinelle and animal park with 800 animals from 50 species or Parc Ornithalogique du Teich which is a wild bird sanctuary with 80 different species at any one time.

Five Reasons to Book a Family Holiday to La Rive

  • Sandy beach with fresh water
  • Fantastic water sports
  • Lovely wooded setting

A colourful site with a vibrant atmosphere, we returned for a second time to see the recent renovations. The bar and restaurant area are now super sleek and modern looking with a tasty new tapas bar. The pool also had a makeover with two of the four pools now covered and extra space has been created for the chairs and loungers.

The facilities at La Rive are best described as plentiful, the only downside to the site is long travelling distances if you can cope with that this is great site for young families.
