La Forge De Ste Marie Reviews

La Forge De Ste Marie Holiday Park

Situated in the heart of champagne countryside is the small and friendly campsite of La Forge De Ste Marie. Built around a beautifully converted 17th century forge (I guess the clue was in the name really) this is a lovely spot for a relaxing family holiday.

The friendly reception staff speak English (plus a host of other European languages) and you can get access to the internet and use WiFi IF you really must! On site shopping here runs to a mini market which is perfect for your last minute self-catering needs and a second shop where you can buy other holiday essentials as well.

If you want to stay at La Forge De Ste Marie you have a choice of chalet or tented accommodation. The two bedroomed chalet has everything you need for catering for the little ones whilst you are away. Ovens, grills, gas hobs and fridges with freezer compartments are all standard. There is also a small shower/bathroom for you.

Tented accommodation is great for that more outdoorsy feel so don’t go expecting glamping. It comes with two bedrooms has simple catering facilities, comfortable beds, and separate living space. Oh, and one last thing, all tents will be fitted with new canvasses for 2012.

Facilities & Activities at La Forge De Ste Marie

Between the end of April and middle of September there is an activity programme for kids and adults alike. The staff put on a programme of sporting events and family activities such as camp fires and organised walks. If old habits can’t be broken there is a TV room and a games room with pool, table football, darts, pinball and electronic games to be had. During high season there is a children’s disco organised which is just perfect for creating some seriously adult only time

Swimming is geat fun at La Forge De Ste Marie. The Main pool is indoor, heated and really great for all the family together. There is also a second indoor pool, again heated, that’s perfect for children and toddlers. You can also make use of the sun loungers sun terrace to catch a few French rays. Whilst we’re talking about wet the site has its own fishing river for trout and carp. You can purchase permits locally on site.

Cycle hire is also available and is a great way for the kids to learn how to get around on bikes.

Sporting activities include table tennis, five aside footie. Perfect for the kids so why not drum up an international tournament while you are here. There is also volley ball, archery and where would any holiday to France be without boules.

If you are looking for action off site there’s a great choice. Windsurfing and dingy sailing make a great day out at 25 miles travelling with horse riding closer to the site at 15 miles.

Being located in the heart of France’s champagne region a visit to either Reims or Epernay is a must and while you’re there take a guided tour of one of the Champagne houses. The cellars just have to be seen to be believed.

You can also visit Nigoland which is the area’s best known theme park. A variety of children’s rides and more white knuckle thrill seekers rides are available and a visit to this park is sure to be one the kids holiday highlights.

Another great day out is to be had at Lac du Der. A centre for practically with every water sport you can think of all provided in stunning surroundings with great wildlife. With jet skis, beaches, sailing, wildlife walks this park has something for everyone.

Feeding the family can always be a challenge when you are on holiday but La Forge De Ste Marie has it all covered. As well as your great self-catering (stock up from the local markets for a very French time) you can eat on the food terrace bar, overlooking lake where the restaurant serves local specialities. During high season there is also a pizzeria for those with more home based taste buds.

We stopped at La Forge De Ste Marie for four days on our way down to Lyon. We didn’t book since it was out of season and the site is large, even out of season it was busier than I imagined although we had the pick of the pitches from the man on reception who was very friendly. The sanitary blocks were spotless and the site even catered for the kids with miniature facilities for them. We were a large group, so the ages varied between 3 and 16, all of them enjoyed it. Football, play areas, volleyball, swimming, kids clubs, table tennis, archery were just some the things the kids and adults did. Perhaps 4 days was just enough, anymore and maybe the kids would have become jittery.

Overall a lovely quiet campsite in countryside.
