Castell Montgri Campsite Reviews

Castell Montgri Campsite Reviews

Castell Montigri Holiday Park

Castell Montigri  is located in the small port town of L’Estartit on the Costa Brava in the Catalonia region of north eastern Spain. The park is surrounded by spectacular scenery and has superb facilities with a good program of entertainment for adults and children throughout the season all of which make it one of the best camping destinations in this part of Spain. The site boasts a well run reception where they can deal with any queries efficiently and easily (they speak English – mercy me!). Internet facilities, along with Wi-Fi are available if you can’t get by without your daily dose of workplace gossip.  On site shops include a supermarket where you can buy English newspapers as well as stock up on your self-catering essentials.

The site has just over one thousand pitches which means it will be lively with plenty to do and you will also have a wide choice of accommodation types.  Accommodation is all in mobile home type chalets that have either two or three bedrooms and sleep six or seven people. All chalets have at least one double bedroom. Some have sofa beds in the living room but all have at least two separate bedrooms. They also have well equipped kitchens with everything including the kitchen sink. Kitchens are well equipped with oven, hob, grill  and fridge and in some cases a dishwasher so Dad’s off the hook.

As well as home from home necessities such as hairdryers and iPod docks for the kids, there is also a selection of patio furniture and gas BBQ for each chalet. Some even have luxurious decked terraces which are perfect for having family meals together in the long warm evening sun.

If you are planning a slightly longer stay you can cut down on the luggage as there is a well equipped laundry with washers, dryers and a laundry service available for very reasonable charges.

Castell Montigri is easy to get to either on a self drive basis using Eurotunnel or by using a fly drive arrangement into either Barcelona, Gerona or Perpignan airport.

Facilities & Activities

With the wonderful warm weather in this part of Spain the pools will be the number one attraction for the family. There are four pools to choose from including the outdoor panorama pool which has four water slides and a diving board. Other pools feature slides and chutes that are suited for children over 1m tall. There is also an outdoor pool for younger children who may be slightly less confident in the water.

As you would expect from a site with as many pitches as Catell Montigri, there is a long list of activities to keep you amused. From mini-golf and children’s playgrounds to an onsite cinema you can progress to sports activities such as tennis, table tennis and football. Because you are in the heart of one of Spain’s best known tourist areas, the number of offsite facilities within easy reach is also extensive.  Horse riding, fishing, golf are all within 7km of the site while boat trips, scuba diving, windsurfing, and dingy saving are available within walking distance, less than 1km from the site.

All this activity is sure to build up young appetites and the site and dining facilities are very good. There is a smart, traditional Spanish restaurant serving a good selection of Catalan dishes. They also offer a children’s menu for younger visitors who may not be quite so keen on trying different foods. The restaurant has a stunning view looking over the L’Ombra swimming pool and is perfect for family meals in the evening. Day time hunger pangs can be taken care of by the take away where burgers and pizzas are available. The menu also features wonderful fresh salads and pastas. There is also a creperie that is open during high season between mid June and mid September. Evening entertainment centres around three bars. Bar L’Ombra is a large bar with arcade games and pool tables while Bar Panorama is a large bar with a superb view. It is also where  the regularly organized entertainment takes place. The third bar is Bar la Bassa where there is a second entertainment program provided between mid June and mid September. Regular family and adult discos are also organised during the high season.

If you are looking for a little time off, there is an excellent range of children’s club activities. Fun Station is perfect for 4 – 12 year olds with Fun Olympics, Breakfast Club and Art Attack just some of the activities that are offered by the professional staff. Base is the club that arranges activities for 13 to 17 year olds that are just too grown up to be seen dead at a children’s club. Activities are so cool they’ll get frost bite and include beach games, Shipwrecked parties and pizza evenings on the beach.

Five Reasons to Book a Family Holiday to Castell Montigri

  • Wonderful weather
  • Perfect for children
  • Good entertainment program for adults
  • Smart traditional restaurant
  • Superb choice of accommodation types

Just looking at the photos brings back so many happy memories.

I travelled with 3 other adults, two teens and two young boys. The site caters for each age group really well, nobody felt left out or bored. The eldest two had the freedom of the site and had such a great time. The site is fairly lively with games and entertainment through the day and family friendly entertainment during the evenings/night. We stayed in mobile homes which were modern, well equipped and spacious. Hopefully we will all be returning in the summer.
