June 6, 2014 will mark the 70th anniversary of the historic Normandy landings and people from all over the world will be flocking to the Normandy beaches and other important sites of the Battle of Normandy. There are plenty of events planned, with remembrance ceremonies, parades and even re-enactments of battles. With a growing number of companies offering D-Day Landing Tours, there are so many options available for anybody interested in learning more about the historic battles that prospective visitors are almost spoilt for choice. Camping Le Cormoran is a 5 star campsite practically on Utah Beach where the US 4th Infantry Division landed with little resistance.
This sophisticated campsite represents all that’s great about camping in the 21st Century with three heated pools (one undercover) and free Tai Chi sessions that will calm your mind while keeping your body in tip top shape. There is a large Playroom boasting fussball, pinball, arcade games and table tennis – great activities for keeping the kids occupied between visits to the beach or to local attractions.
There are sports fields for basket ball, football and beach volleyball and outdoor Playgrounds boasting a wealth of modern playground equipment including swings, climbing frames, inflatables and trampolines. The campsite also hires out small karts (some pulled by wooden horses) for under 12s to use to get around the campsite – a sure fire winner with the little ones in your party. Even more fun for the kids is the Animal Park where children can get to know and even pet the cutest goats you’ve ever seen.
There is a range of bikes (suitable for adults and kids) that can be rented, with child seats available for toddlers, so that you can take family cycling trips on the beaches or nearby countryside. The whole campsite is planted with flowering shrubs that add fragrance and colour to the beautiful surroundings and lend a real tropical feel.
Sit Back and Relax
The campsite’s Beauty Salon is open in the high season, providing massages, scrubs, waxing and other procedures for a really glam experience that can be followed by a relaxing break in the Jacuzzi. For those wanting to chill out even more, there is even a sauna.
Evening entertainment (after all that pampering) includes a TV Room and Library, or if you’re feeling sociable, the campsite bar is the place to be, with live music, magic shows, darts tournaments and billiards to keep you amused.
The site has pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes or the option of booking a mobile home or Wild West wagon to stay in! There are also 3-bedroom Villas (with dishwasher and satellite TV), Country Chalets that sleep up to 6 people with full American style kitchen and Hi-Fi systems that can be rented for your stay.
D-Day Landing Anniversary Celebrations
If you’re planning to visit some of the D-Day Landing Beaches and other sites of historical interest, Le Cormoran’s website has plenty of information available on the relevant museums and so that you can plan your activities in advance. The nearby Tourist Office in Sainte-Mere-Eglise holds an annual festival with parades and performances, exhibitions, picnics, historic walks and tours. Whether you visit during the Anniversary Celebrations or not, the campsite makes an ideal base for visiting the landing beaches, museums and exhibitions. Bringing history to life is a great educational opportunity for the kids and would be particularly appropriate for those who are studying World War 2 as part of that year’s curriculum.
This campsite is part of the Kawan Villages chain – a range of luxury holiday villages in France, Spain and Italy. With superior facilities, all of the campsites have been designed for the ultimate in family camping holidays. Campers who have holidayed at one of these villages are usually so impressed by the experience that they determine to use this network of European campsites for all their camping holidays in future.
